The District Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Somuah undertook a working visit to Bonkwaem, a key cocoa-growing community in the district, to strengthen government-citizen engagement and assess the progress of local development projects.
During a pivotal meeting with farmers, Hon. Somuah addressed recent adjustments in cocoa prices, acknowledging the concerns raised by the farmers. He reassured them of the government's steadfast dedication to stabilizing the sector and safeguarding the interests of cocoa farmers.
The DCE encouraged the farmers to uphold high standards of production and to collaborate closely with agricultural extension officers. He emphasized that leveraging technical expertise is crucial for improving crop yields and ensuring long-term productivity.
Beyond the agricultural dialogue, the DCE inspected a newly drilled borehole for the community. He reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to expanding access to safe and reliable drinking water, alongside improving sanitation infrastructure in rural areas.
Addressing logistical challenges, Hon. Somuah outlined the Assembly's initiatives to improve road networks within Bonkwaem and its surrounding areas. He stressed that better roads are essential for reducing post-harvest losses and facilitating access to markets and essential services.
In an engagement with staff at the Bonkwaem community school, the DCE listened to their concerns, particularly regarding the lack of accommodation. He assured the teachers of construction of suitable housing for educators in rural communities as a top priority for the Assembly.
Demonstrating inclusivity, Hon. Somuah concluded his visit with a donation to the local Muslim community to support their observances during the holy month of Ramadan. Community leaders expressed their appreciation, describing the gesture as a reflection of unity and compassion within the district.
Accompanied by the District NADMO Director, Hon. Abudu Musah, the visit was met with profound gratitude from community members, who praised the Assembly’s responsive leadership and its unwavering commitment to grassroots development.
