The Sekyere Central District Assembly (SCDA) observed the August edition of the National Sanitation Day on Saturday, 29th August 2026, with a clean-up exercise centered on the major streets of Nsuta, the District Capital.
Addressing participants at the conclusion of the exercise, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Somuah, expressed profound gratitude to all volunteers, with special commendation extended to the students and staff of Nsutaman Catholic Senior High School. He underscored the importance of reviving communal labour as a foundational cultural value, emphasizing that the participation of students was a deliberate effort to cultivate a sense of civic responsibility and environmental stewardship within the younger generation, thereby fostering sustainable community development.
Hon. Somuah further noted that students from other Senior High Schools in the District will be engaged in similar exercises within their respective localities. He reiterated that the National Sanitation Day initiative is designed not only to ensure regular environmental cleanliness but also to inculcate a sustained culture of hygiene, ultimately reducing the prevalence of communicable diseases. He issued a strong warning against environmentally destructive practices and assured the public that the Assembly’s sanitation task force will intensify house-to-house monitoring and enforce prosecution of offenders under the Assembly’s sanitation by-laws.
The exercise attracted significant participation from Nananom of the Nsuta Traditional Council, the Hon. Presiding Member, Hon. Assembly Members, officers of the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Immigration Service, as well as teachers, students, and members of the general public.
